The $125 million BWI Thurgood Marshal Airport Terminal D/E Connector project was designed in increase international capabilities. The 100,000 sf expansion project enhances infrastructure with added security checkpoints, expanded baggage handling capabilities and modernizing the customer experience in general.
Of note, the D/E connector includes a gallery featuring art created by regional artists. A five-member jury panel of local educators selected the art during a recent competition. Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan served as chairperson of the panel and was at the airport today to acknowledge the winners. A total of 581 entries were received during the contest, and 28 pieces were selected for the exhibition space.
PPSI worked with the AECOM (formerly URS, Hunt Valley) to create custom terrazzo mixes for the space. The design team wanted to tie into red accent elements and we incorporated recycled stained glass aggregate to the red accent bands for added interest and coordination with other accent elements in the space.
