GriD Architects of Annapolis, Maryland have created another gem in the heart of Maryland’s state capitol. Using a very innovative “”dutch lap”” or “”fish scale”” design, Swisspearl’s metallic fiber cement cladding color series, called Reflex, makes a bold statement. The building is situated at the entrance to Annapolis, a quaint and historic town. The town now has a beautiful new addition featuring the warmth of HPL wood panels, Swisspearl’s metallic series fiber cement, and an ECO Cladding VZ.10 subframing system. The Swisspearl fiber cement panel selected was the Platinum 9020 panel from the Reflex line. The High Pressure Laminate panel selected was Copper from Parklex Facades product fastened with a color-coated pop-rivet to match the panel color.
PPSI worked with GriD architects on another Swisspearl and Parklex project less then a block away at 107 Forbes called Giddings Ave. Both projects are standout buildings in West Annapolis. PPSI assisted the team at GriD Architects with their wall assembly design, detail, and material selection. Both 107 Forbes and the Giddings Ave project used Hunter Panels’ XCI Ply polyiso rigid insulation to provide a structural substrate to attach the subframe systems for the exterior panels while also provide a code compliant continuous insulation that meets ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, IBC and IRC standards.
PPSI also helped specify a black, UV stable vapor permeable air barrier from Henry to allow the open joint Swisspearl and Parklex rainscreen system to maintain the aesthetic with a black reveal while providing a quality, fluid applied air barrier to complete the building envelope. Providing the structural sheathing and insulation in one panel helps keep the square foot cost of the wall assembly down by eliminating a layer of insulation subframe and helping with labor costs due to the ease of installation.
